Phuket Town (TH)
Mee Ton Poe is a Hokkien noodle shop at the clock tower roundabout on Phuket Road, and has been feeding Phuket Town since 1946. The name refers to the bodhi tree that once stood beside the original stall.
The draw is mee hokkien: thick yellow egg noodles fried in a wok with pork, squid, shrimp and greens, finished in a glossy brown gravy and topped with an egg. It was listed in the Phuket Michelin Guide in 2021. The room is plain and functional, and service is quick.
What to order
- Mee hokkien pad: wok-fried yellow noodles with pork, seafood and a soft egg in thick gravy
- Mee tom yum: the same noodles in a hot and sour broth
- Moo satay: grilled pork skewers with peanut sauce, a popular side
Good to know
- It closes in the early evening, so plan it for breakfast, lunch or an early dinner.
- Midday and holidays get busy, so expect a short wait for a table.
- Parking at the clock tower branch is difficult; walk from the Old Town or use the Kathu or Thalang branches if driving.
