City guide
Phuket Town, the old trading town on the east side of the island, feels a long way from the beach resorts. Its food comes from the Hokkien Chinese families who settled here during the tin-mining era and from southern Thai cooking: thick yellow mee Hokkien noodles, crab curry eaten with thin rice noodles, braised pork belly (moo hong), dim sum breakfasts and some of the hottest curries in the country.
This page collects the Top 10 list for Phuket Town's noodles, the restaurants and shops on the site, and our guide to eating in Phuket and the south. The old town around Thalang, Dibuk and Krabi roads is small enough to walk, and many of the classic shops serve breakfast and close by mid-afternoon.
