Chiang Mai (TH)
Khao Soi Lamduan sits on Charoenrat Road in Fah Ham, a riverside strip north of the city centre that is known for a cluster of long-running khao soi shops. Lamduan is among the best known of them.
The family business has been cooking khao soi for over 70 years and has a branch in Bangkok. The owners have even claimed to have invented the dish, a story food writers treat with caution, but the shop's long history is not in doubt.
Inside it is a simple open-fronted shop with stainless tables and quick service. Locals come for an early lunch, and the soup can run out before the official closing time.
What to order
- Khao soi neua: beef khao soi, the bowl most reviewers recommend
- Khao soi gai: chicken drumstick in the same coconut curry broth
- Moo satay: grilled pork skewers as a side
- Pickled mustard greens, shallots and lime on the side to sharpen the broth
Good to know
- Go before 13:00; it can sell out ahead of the 15:30 close.
- It is a few kilometres from the old city, so take a songthaew or ride-hail car to Charoenrat Road.
- Do not confuse it with Lamduan branches elsewhere in town; the original is at 352/22 Charoenrat Road.
