Chiang Mai (TH)
Nam Ngiao Yong is a small stall inside Siri Wattana Market on Chang Phueak Road, north of the old city. It is known for khanom jeen nam ngiao, fresh rice noodles in a sour, spicy broth of tomato and pork ribs.
The Michelin Guide includes it in its Chiang Mai selection, praising a short menu of two dishes: the nam ngiao and a red curry with chicken, coconut milk and fish balls. It is a good way to try a northern noodle dish that is less famous abroad than khao soi.
Seating is limited and the stall is busy with market shoppers. Bowls come quickly and cost very little.
What to order
- Khanom jeen nam ngiao: rice noodles in tangy tomato and pork rib broth
