Bangkok (TH)
Somsak Pu Ob is a street cart in a lane off Charoen Rat Road in Thonburi, cooking one dish in small metal pans: pu ob woon sen, crab or prawns baked on glass noodles with pepper, ginger and soy. The noodles soak up the seafood juices at the bottom of the pan, which is the best part.
It has been serving the neighbourhood for over three decades and holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand in the 2026 guide, which praises the freshness of the seafood and the springy noodles. The cook makes only a few pans at a time, so there is usually a wait.
What to order
- Crab with glass noodles (pu ob woon sen): the signature pan, rich with crab juices
- Prawns with glass noodles (goong ob woon sen): large prawns on the same peppery noodles
- Mixed crab and prawn pan: a good choice for two people who want both
Good to know
- Arrive close to 16:00 opening; pans are cooked in small batches and the wait grows quickly.
- Stir the noodles through the juices at the bottom before eating.
- It is a short walk from BTS Wongwian Yai. Cash only, closed Mondays.
