Where to eat in Bangkok

Bangkok is where most people meet Thai food for the first time, and it rewards anyone who eats beyond the hotel restaurant. The cooking leans central Thai, sweet, sour and rich with coconut, but the city also carries the Teochew and Hokkien food of Chinatown, Isaan grills and salads brought by workers from the northeast, and fiery southern curries. Much of the best food comes from specialists: shophouses and carts that have cooked one dish, such as pad thai, boat noodles or khao man gai, for decades.

This page gathers everything on the site about eating in Bangkok: the Top 10 lists for single dishes, the restaurants, stalls and markets we cover, and a guide to what to order. The old town (Phra Nakhon), Chinatown (Yaowarat) and Bang Rak have the densest spread of classic shops, and stalls are at their busiest in the morning and early evening.
