Jok Prince
Bang Rak's favourite congee shop, known for silky, faintly smoky rice porridge with chunky pork balls and egg.

Bangkok (TH)
Jok Prince is a small congee shop on Charoen Krung Road that takes its name from the old Prince Hotel it once operated behind. It moved from a narrow alley stall into a shophouse next door, and a takeaway queue still forms out front most mornings.
The congee is cooked until it is smooth and carries a light, deliberate smoky edge from the pot, which divides opinion but has a loyal following. It held a Michelin Bib Gourmand for several years, including the 2022 and 2023 guides. Bowls are cheap and fast, making it an easy breakfast before exploring the riverside.
What to order
- Pork congee with pork balls: the classic bowl with large, soft hand-made balls
- Congee with raw egg: stir the egg in while the porridge is hot so it turns silky
- Congee with century egg: for a deeper, savoury contrast
- Pa tong go: crisp Chinese dough sticks to tear into the bowl
Good to know
- Go early in the morning; the shop closes in the early afternoon and reopens later in the day.
- Bring cash and add your own ginger, spring onion, chilli or vinegar at the table.
- It is a short walk from BTS Saphan Taksin, and Prachak Roasted Duck is just along the road.
