Khao Gaeng Jek Pui
A decades-old Chinatown curry rice stall where diners perch on red stools with plates in hand, no tables in sight.

Jek Pui is a curry rice stall on Mangkon Road in Bangkok's Chinatown that has been feeding the neighbourhood for around seventy years. Curries are cooked ahead and ladled from big pots over rice or khanom jeen rice noodles, at prices well under 100 baht.
There are no tables at all, only a row of red stools, and seats change hands so fast that locals call it the musical chairs stall. The flavours lean salty, sweet and spicy, and the yellow pork curry with a slice of Chinese sausage is the order regulars swear by.
What to order
- Yellow curry with pork: mild, rich and slightly sweet
- Green curry with chicken: herbal and coconut-heavy
- Chinese sausage: a sweet, fatty add-on that suits every curry
- Braised egg: an easy extra to round out the plate
Good to know
- Arrive close to opening; popular curries sell out well before closing time.
- If you want to eat on site, grab a free stool rather than joining the takeaway queue.
- Take the MRT Blue Line to Wat Mangkon; the stall is a couple of minutes' walk away.
