Cherng Doi Roast Chicken (Gai Yang Cherng Doi) is an open-air restaurant on Suk Kasame Road, a quiet street just off the Nimmanhaemin area. The name refers to the foothills of Doi Suthep, which rise behind this part of town.
It is popular for charcoal-grilled chicken with very crisp skin, served with dipping sauces and sticky rice. The fried papaya salad, a crunchy twist on som tam, is the other dish people come back for.
It is a casual, busy place where most meals come in at a few hundred baht or less, low prices for the Nimman area.
